The Capital Fund was started in December 2006 with the intent to encourage tax deductible donations from both private and corporate donors /sponsors and to set them aside for capital improvements to the West Potomac Crew program. We project that over the next ten years the WPCB will need to purchase 5 new shells (boats) costing approx $30,000 each, as well as fund a new off season storage facility (over $100,000). It simply is not possible to raise these additional funds with only the fundraising efforts we traditionally hold each year. Therefore, the goal of the capital fund is to provide potential donors with a straightforward way to assist us in meeting our long term, capital needs.
Participation in the Capital Fund program is encouraged through several venues. The first is through end of year tax deductions. The WPCB is a fully certified 501 c.3. program and as such provides tax deductible receipts verifying each donation. The second venue is via reduced rower dues. The capital fund allows for a discount in rower dues equal to 10% of money solicited and attributable to individual rowers. For example if a rower raises $1000 dollars, his/her dues would be reduced by $100. Thus, through this program, rowers can significantly reduce the costs of participation while at the same time greatly contributing toward needed capital improvements.*
Provided below are several links to assist in participation. Two are for anyone desiring to donate either online or by check. The third link is a letter for potential private (friends/relatives) or corporate donors (like your work or business). Use of these forms makes donating to WPCB Capital Fund easy.
In summary, the Capital Fund is a program directed at those in our community who can and would like to give in a special way to support our program. And not only is it not intended to be add any burden for families in the program, it actually helps to reduce the financial burden. With your help, the Capital Fund will help to keep West Potomac Crew strong in future years.
We thank you in advance for your support and consideration.
Sincerely,
David A. Wilson
President, West Potomac Crew Boosters
*Note: Tax deductions for contributions by individual rowers reduced by amount credited toward dues. Amounts credited toward reduction of an individual rower's dues from contributions other than from rower must be reported as income to the IRS.
